Key Facts

  • The Molycop Masterclass Series is returning to Canada to support mining professionals with practical, site-focused learning opportunities.
  • The program focuses on SAG Grinding Operational Analysis, helping participants better understand the factors that influence mill performance, throughput and circuit stability.
  • Attendees will benefit from interactive sessions, real-world case studies, networking opportunities and an exclusive tour of the Molycop Kamloops Plant.

Supporting customers through knowledge and expertise

At Molycop, technical support goes beyond products and services. The company works closely with customers to help solve operational challenges, improve performance and build technical capability within mining teams.

The Molycop Masterclass Series reflects this commitment by creating a collaborative learning environment where engineers, metallurgists and operators can gain practical insights, exchange ideas and develop skills that can be applied immediately on site.

We spoke with Carl Marineau and Levi Guzman about the return of the Masterclass Series to Canada and what participants can expect from the event.

Q&A with Carl Marineau and Levi Guzman

Molycop is bringing the Masterclass Series back to Canada. Why is that important?

Carl Marineau: Canada is home to some of the world's leading mining operations, and our customers are constantly looking for ways to improve performance, solve technical challenges and develop their teams.

We're excited to bring the Molycop Masterclass Series back to Canada because it gives us the opportunity to connect directly with customers and provide practical learning experiences that can have an immediate impact on site. This isn't just about delivering a presentation. It's about creating an environment where people can learn, ask questions, share experiences and leave with solutions they can apply.

What makes a Molycop Masterclass different from traditional training programs?

Levi Guzman: The biggest difference is that everything is focused on practical application.

There are many ways to access theoretical information today through papers, webinars and conferences, but operational teams also need support to understand how that knowledge applies in real plant environments.

Molycop Masterclasses are built around real-world challenges. We use industrial case studies, operational data, simulation tools and practical examples that help participants connect theory with day-to-day decision-making.

Our goal is to provide attendees with practical tools and insights they can immediately take back to their operations.

Technical support has always been a key part of Molycop's offering. How does the Masterclass support that commitment?

Carl Marineau: At Molycop, we see ourselves as more than a supplier. We are a technical partner to our customers.

Supporting customers means helping them solve problems, optimise performance and build capability within their teams. The Masterclass is a natural extension of that approach.

When customers improve their understanding of grinding circuits, they can make better decisions, respond more effectively to variability and identify opportunities they may not have recognised before. That's the type of value we're trying to create.

Levi Guzman: I completely agree. Technical support isn't just about responding when a problem occurs. It's about proactively helping customers improve performance and achieve their operational goals.

Education and knowledge sharing are important parts of that process. When we help engineers, metallurgists and plant operators better understand their circuits, everyone benefits.

Why focus specifically on SAG Grinding Operational Analysis?

Levi Guzman: SAG mills are often at the heart of plant performance. Small changes in operating conditions can have a significant impact on throughput, efficiency and stability.

At the same time, SAG circuits are extremely complex. Ore competency changes, feed size changes and circuit conditions constantly evolve. These variables interact with one another continuously.

The purpose of the Masterclass is to help participants better understand those interactions and develop structured approaches to analysing and optimising circuit performance.

We'll explore topics such as throughput optimisation, charge management, liner performance, process analytics, modelling and simulation, all through a practical operational lens.

What can participants expect from the learning experience?

Carl Marineau: One of the things I really like about the program is the level of interaction.

We've intentionally limited participation to just 20 attendees. That allows people to engage directly with Levi and the broader Molycop technical team.

Participants can bring their own questions and challenges into the discussion. The conversations become much more meaningful because the sessions are interactive rather than one-way presentations.

Levi Guzman: The small-group format creates a much better learning environment.

People are often dealing with similar challenges, whether that's throughput limitations, ore variability or circuit instability. By sharing experiences and discussing real situations, participants learn from each other as well as from the instructors.

Beyond the classroom, what other opportunities does the Masterclass offer?

Carl Marineau: We've included several activities that make the experience even more valuable.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit the Molycop Kamloops Plant, attend a customer networking dinner, and participate in a technology showcase featuring some of Molycop's latest innovations.

These activities create opportunities for deeper discussions and stronger industry connections. Many of the most valuable conversations happen outside the classroom.

What do you hope participants take away from the event?

Levi Guzman: I hope they leave with confidence.

Confidence in their ability to analyse performance, identify optimisation opportunities and make better operational decisions.

Our goal isn't simply to deliver information. It's to help professionals develop practical skills that generate measurable results.

Carl Marineau: For me, success is when someone returns to site and applies something they learned during the Masterclass to improve performance.

Whether that's increasing throughput, reducing variability, improving energy efficiency or gaining a new perspective on a challenge, that's where the value lies.

Ultimately, this Masterclass is about supporting our customers and helping them succeed.
