Huaraucaca’s Classroom of the Future: Built by the community, supported by partners

In Huaraucaca, Peru, the new Classroom of the Future shows how community vision, supported by Molycop and other partners, can transform education.

Key Facts

  • The Classroom of the Future introduces advanced technology, interactive spaces and digital tools to help students develop 21st-century skills.

  • Equipped with modern tools and flexible spaces, the classroom is designed to inspire students, empower teachers, and strengthen long-term community development.
In the Peruvian community of Huaraucaca, a bold new chapter has begun with the launch of the Classroom of the Future. This initiative, led by Ecosem – a company formed by the local community – is a powerful example of how vision, determination and collaboration can deliver meaningful change.

With the support of partners including Molycop, the Social Affairs Office of El Brocal and Ecosem Huaraucaca, the project highlights the strength of community-led progress.

Molycop played a supportive role by providing classroom furniture, helping to equip a dynamic space where students and teachers can embrace new tools, learning methods and growth opportunities.

Doing what’s right

Molycop understands that good corporate governance and ethical practices are the foundation of sustainability. Doing what’s right means acting with integrity, managing risks responsibly, and ensuring its values are reflected in how the company engages with communities, customers and partners.

Javier Castro, Molycop Country Manager for Peru, said:

Science and technology are advancing, and in Huaraucaca it is now a reality to inaugurate this Classroom of the Future — a space that will serve all students. Education has always been the most important investment we can make for our children. This classroom is just the beginning; the true impact will come from the hands of teachers and students who bring it to life every day.

Doing what matters

The Classroom of the Future embodies Molycop’s philosophy of ‘Doing What Matters’. It’s designed to promote creativity, critical thinking and collaboration; equip students with 21st-century skills and digital tools; and provide flexible layouts that adapt to different teaching needs. It becomes a platform for students to become the protagonists in their own learning and for teachers to deliver richer, more engaging lessons.

Addressing Peru’s education challenges

Peru’s education system faces serious challenges. In some regions, dropout rates exceed 60%, driven by economic hardship, family issues and teenage pregnancies. Schools were closed for almost two years during the COVID pandemic, which led to an increase in the dropout rate.

Projects like the Classroom of the Future are designed to address gaps in Peru's education system. By integrating advanced technologies such as interactive whiteboards, mobile devices, high-speed internet and educational software, the initiative creates a modern, resource-rich learning environment that inspires students to stay engaged and pursue their studies.

Collaboration for sustainable impact

The success of this project lies in collaboration. Ecosem spearheaded the initiative with the support of partners, including Molycop, El Brocal’s Social Affairs Office, Ecosem Huaraucaca and local education leaders. Each stakeholder brought unique strengths to the table, ensuring the project was well-rounded and addressed the community’s needs from multiple perspectives.

Measuring success and looking ahead

The Classroom of the Future model has already been successfully implemented in several schools in Spain, where it demonstrated strong improvements in student engagement and academic performance. In Huaraucaca, success will be measured through student participation and motivation, improvements in learning outcomes, and feedback from educators, parents and the wider community.

Construction is now complete, with the classroom ready to welcome its first students. Looking ahead, Ecosem and its partners aim to expand the model to other communities, further promoting educational sustainability and social development across Peru.

A model for meaningful change

The Classroom of the Future in Huaraucaca is a testament to the power of community leadership, supported by committed partners. For Ecosem, it represents vision and determination. For Molycop, it’s an opportunity to live the company’s values – doing what’s right and doing what matters.
