Real-time carbon control: Molycop to present at CMP Southern Ontario

Molycop will present at the CMP Southern Ontario Annual Meeting in Toronto, where Process Engineer Sanjhosh Sathya will showcase how advanced instrumentation and control solutions deliver rapid payback, higher recovery and long-term operational value.

Key Facts

  • Molycop’s C2 Meters and Carbon-In-Leach (CIL) circuit delivered a $5 million benefit in 12 months at Hidden Valley Gold and Silver Mine in PNG.
  • The installation achieved an 89% reduction in fresh carbon usage, a 45% cut in gold solution losses, and a 5% lift in silver recovery.
  • Process Engineer Sanjhosh Sathya will explain how Molycop’s advanced solutions enable customers to boost recovery and efficiency in his presentation at the CMP Annual Meeting in Toronto.
Molycop has announced it will participate in the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Canadian Mineral Processors (CMP) Southern Ontario Branch on 2 October 2025, at Toronto’s Steam Whistle Brewery. The event will bring together industry professionals, researchers and suppliers for a day of technical presentations, networking and discussions on the latest innovations shaping mineral processing.

Representing Molycop’s Process Engineering team, Sanjhosh Sathya, Process Engineer at Molycop, will present from 2:15–2:35pm, sharing a real-world case study that demonstrates the impact of advanced instrumentation and control solutions on plant performance.

Sathya says the case study demonstrates the improvements that can be gained from automated carbon management:

I will be presenting a case study conducted at the Hidden Valley Gold and Silver Mine in Papua New Guinea, where Molycop installed six online carbon concentration meters (C2 Meters) in their Carbon-In-Leach (CIL) circuit, along with a carbon movement controller. The project evaluated the benefits of real-time carbon measurement for automated carbon management. The results were outstanding, with a payback period of less than three weeks and a $5 million benefit over 12 months.
The installation delivered several measurable improvements, including:
  • Improved carbon management: 89% reduction in fresh carbon addition rate due to reduced carbon fines generation and increased carbon activity.
  • Reduced gold losses: 45% reduction in gold solution losses to the CIL final tails.
  • Increased silver recovery: 5% improvement in overall silver recovery.
  • Automated control: More efficient use of operators’ time in both the field and the control room.
  • Reliable data: Continuous online measurements for accurate carbon inventory estimation.

Laying the groundwork for success

Sanjhosh believes events like CMP Southern Ontario’s AGM play a vital role in advancing the industry.

“This AGM provides a unique platform for networking, knowledge-sharing and cross-disciplinary collaboration,” he says. “It helps professionals stay up to date on the latest trends, while also giving students valuable insights into the industry and motivating them to pursue careers in mineral processing.”

Looking ahead, Sathya highlights the growing role of digitalisation and automation:

The use of AI and automation in mineral processing is rapidly advancing. I’m especially excited about developments in digital twins and remote monitoring systems. I look forward to discussing how Molycop’s advanced process control solutions can be combined with our instrumentation to help clients achieve higher throughput, recovery and efficiency, while reducing costs.
Ultimately, Sathya hopes attendees will leave his session with a clear sense of the practical value that real-time measurement and automated systems bring to mining operations.

“With accurate, timely carbon density measurements and automated carbon movement control, operations can reduce gold losses, optimise carbon consumption and improve efficiency,” he notes. “I want to show how technologies like the C2 Meter and Carbon Movement Controller provide continuous long-term value with minimal capital investment.”

Molycop is committed to delivering cutting-edge solutions across the mineral processing flowsheet. The CMP’s AGM highlights the company’s commitment to innovation, collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the industry.
