A Western Australian Tier-1 gold mine undertook a structured performance assessment following the introduction of Molycop high chrome (HiCr) grinding media in September 2024 to replace the incumbent supplier.
- Molycop’s HiCr grinding media demonstrated equivalent wear performance when compared with the incumbent HiCr media under normalised operating conditions.
- Molycop identified a total cost of ownership benefit by transitioning HiCr grinding media supply.
- Molycop grinding media is available globally.
Following a five-month purge period to allow for full displacement of the incumbent grinding media charge, data from February 2025 onward was assessed as representative of Molycop-only performance. Analysis confirmed comparable wear rates, maintained mill stability, and no statistically significant difference in grinding media consumption.
The assessment was completed in December 2025 after an extended evaluation period covering more than 18 months of operating data.
