Molycop welcomes Brian Vivero as a Technical Applications Engineer in Chile, bringing data‑driven insight to grinding optimisation and whole‑of‑circuit performance.
Key facts
- Brian Vivero joins Molycop as a Technical Applications Engineer based in Chile
- He brings hands‑on metallurgical experience from Codelco and a strong data‑driven mindset
- His role focuses on grinding optimisation and whole‑of‑circuit performance improvement
With a background in metallurgy and hands-on operational experience, Brian brings a balanced approach—combining technical analysis with a clear understanding of plant realities.
From academic foundations to real-world application
Brian is a Metallurgical Civil Engineer from the University of Concepción, where he developed a strong interest in mineral processing alongside skills in data analysis and software tools.During his studies, he worked as a teaching assistant in Thickening and Filtration, strengthening both his technical knowledge and his ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
His transition from theory to practice was shaped during his time at Codelco, at the Chuquicamata Division.
I had the opportunity to work in the molybdenum plant and filtration area, and later continue within Process Engineering as part of my thesis,” Brian explains. “That experience allowed me to work closely with operations and understand how decisions are made in real time.
Working across flotation and water recovery, Brian supported site teams in defining reagent strategies aligned with production targets—an experience he describes as pivotal.
It helped me connect technical theory with operational impact.
A focus on grinding and circuit performance
Brian joins Molycop with a clear focus on comminution and improving overall plant performance. In his role, he works across:
• Power-based modelling
• Operational data analysis
• Consumption KPI evaluation
• Simulation using Molycop Tools
His approach extends beyond the grinding stage itself.
"My focus is not only on optimising grinding, but also on understanding how those changes impact downstream processes,” he says. “That’s where real value is created—when you look at the circuit as a whole."
Responding to increasing complexity in Chile
Based in Chile, Brian works closely with customers navigating increasingly complex operating conditions.Aging orebodies, declining grades, and the growing use of seawater are driving the need to process higher volumes of material—placing greater pressure on comminution circuits to perform efficiently.
“These conditions increase the complexity of mineral processing significantly,” Brian explains. “You need to treat more material while maintaining stability and product quality.”
In this context, comminution becomes a critical lever.
Optimising grinding is key—not only to reduce media consumption, but also to ensure a consistent product for downstream recovery.
Beyond products: a technical partnership
For Brian, adding value goes beyond supplying grinding media—it’s about working alongside customers as a technical partner.“Adding value means being part of the customer’s process,” he says. “It’s about providing analysis, monitoring performance, and supporting decisions—not just delivering a product.”
This reflects Molycop’s broader approach—combining consumables with technical expertise and digital tools.
When you combine plant data, modelling tools like Molycop Tools, and on-site understanding, you can identify opportunities that aren’t always visible day-to-day.
A commitment to continuous development
Looking ahead, Brian is focused on deepening his expertise in grinding while strengthening his capabilities in data analysis, statistics, and programming.“Those skills are becoming increasingly important in how we approach optimisation,” he says.
His goal is clear: to contribute to improving one of the most critical stages in mining operations.
Finding balance outside of work
Outside of work, Brian enjoys staying active and maintaining a balance between professional and personal life. He has a strong interest in sports—particularly tennis and football—and values spending time with family and friends.Staying active helps me reset and stay focused.
Looking ahead
As Brian Vivero begins his journey with Molycop, he brings technical curiosity, practical experience, and a clear focus on delivering value to customers. His work will support operations across Chile in navigating increasingly complex processing challenges—helping turn data into insight, and insight into action.
