Molycop is proud to sponsor an award that supports the next generation of mining talent. This year's recipient is Bailey Fletcher, a recent mining graduate who has shown great promise and potential in the industry.

In a recent interview, Baily shared his academic background and how he became interested in mining. While pursuing his bachelor's in metallurgical engineering, he became interested in extractive metallurgy. He joined a research team that ran small-scale copper electrorefining experiments, which fascinated him. Hands-on experience with what he learned in the classroom certainly elevated his interest in the mining industry.

As a graduate student at Missouri S&T, Bailey completed a project examining the corrosion effects of grinding media. He performed electrochemical testing on different compositions of grinding media to determine their corrosion potentials and corrosion rates. Determining the corrosion characteristics of various grinding media can help aid the selection process for mining operations.
Baily believes that the research he completed has provided him with a solid understanding of how to solve a technical problem through lab testing and critical thinking. As a metallurgist, he uses these skills daily and will continue to benefit from them throughout his career.

When asked about his career goals in the mining industry, Baily shared that his main goal is to produce mined material in efficient, sustainable, and responsible ways. Another goal of his is to promote mining. Mining is a vital part of society that does not always receive the appreciation it should.

Finally, Baily had some advice for current students considering a career in mining. He recommends getting hands-on experience. Whether through an internship or lab experience at school, hands-on experience has helped him understand new topics and concepts.

Molycop congratulates Baily Fletcher on receiving this award and wishes him all the best in his future career in the mining industry.
