Transforming Efficiency in Nickel Grinding: A Molycop Success Story

At Molycop, we believe in the power of collaboration to drive innovation and transformative change. Our recent venture with a leading Australian nickel mine showcases the remarkable outcomes of such a partnership, unraveling a narrative of excellence in our MillROC improvement project.

The challenge was clear: enhance the grinding circuit's efficiency and stabilize key operating variables. Our journey commenced in early 2020 when Molycop, formerly known as Orway IQ, stepped onto the site with a mission – to optimize the SAG mill operation and revolutionize the circuit.

Implementing MillROC with a live mass balance and dashboards, we aimed to gain a nuanced understanding of the circuit's constraints. The Phase 1 optimization focused on a new control philosophy, fostering stability in crucial operating variables. This, in turn, enabled us to diagnose bottlenecks swiftly and accurately.

The success of our collaborative efforts became evident as we identified the SAG mill grate design as a bottleneck and proposed an innovative solution – a shift to a combination of rubber and hardox steel segments. This strategic adjustment not only addressed the bottleneck but also brought about a significant improvement in circuit efficiency.

Our meticulous approach went beyond addressing symptoms; we delved into the root causes of operational challenges. This granular understanding led to a remarkable enhancement in overall performance, reducing energy requirements and increasing throughput.

This success story isn't just about optimizing a grinding circuit; it's about a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and industry leadership. Molycop's precision and dedication to solving real challenges have not only transformed the nickel mining landscape but also set a new standard for excellence.
