Overview

Oxide minerals generally don’t respond well to traditional methods of concentration using known sulfide copper collectors. Their recovery in a froth flotation circuit requires special treatment. 

The traditional method involves sulfidization, using sodium sulfide (Na2S), sodium hydrosulfide (NaSH) or ammonium sulfide ((NH4)2S), followed by flotation using Xanthate or other sulfide collectors, which are usually stage-added for both efficacy and control.

Typical Uses

Sulfidization in froth flotation is used to treat oxide minerals, converting them into sulfide forms to improve their flotation properties. By adding sulfidizing agents, such as sodium sulfide, the oxide surfaces become more hydrophobic, allowing better attachment to air bubbles. This enhances recovery and separation of oxide materials from gangue.
